If you’re a pet owner, we understand that any time you add something to your home, you have to make sure it’s pet-approved. There are just so many things on the market that are seemingly harmless but pose a major threat to pets.
The same thing goes for misting systems. It is natural to wonder if misting systems are safe for pets.
Today, we’re going to go over that in detail.
What Type of Misting Systems Are We Talking About?
Before we can get into the specific ways misting systems can affect your pets, we need to get the details taken care of.
There are a lot of different misting systems available, and due to different design aspects, each one can have slightly different effects.
We’re solely talking about high pressure misting systems.
A high pressure misting system is a sturdy, metal, or PVC, piping system bracketed to your home and connected to a pressure pump hooked into your water line. Through nozzles, it sprays a small amount of water at a high speed across a large distance. This makes it evaporate instantly.
The cheap misting systems that spray noticeable water everywhere will provide different results than what we talk about here.
Are Misting Systems Dangerous for Pets?
In and of itself, a misting system just sprays water. So, that should tell you everything you need to know in terms of safety. In the systems we’re talking about, the water is literally just the water used in your home’s plumbing. So, if you bath your pets, let them drink tap water, or anything else, you know your pets are perfectly fine.
This is the case 99% of the time.
One concern that you might have is the term “high pressure”. That makes it sound like water is coming out in force and capable of damaging things or annoying your pets, but in reality, you don’t even notice the water.
As we said earlier, the point of the pressurized pump system is to spray a very small amount of water out across a large area quickly. This allows the heat of a warm summer’s day to instantly evaporate it.
There are only two situations where the water might be a problem.
First, if you have more exotic pets, such as different types of insects, you should probably keep them away from the area being misted. Since those are typically confined to a glass tank indoors, that shouldn’t be a problem, but be mindful of it.
One of the core benefits of a misting system is that, while you feel cooler, small insects get weighed down and either die or get locked in place until they dry out. You certainly don’t want that to happen to your pets.
You might also want to keep very small exotic pets such as sugar gliders, very small birds, and similar things away from the misting system. While unlikely to hurt them, the increased moisture in the air can throw them off a little due to their extreme sensitivity to air conditions.
Again, all those examples aren’t likely to be a problem for you. Very few people have those types of pets, and even the ones who do are unlikely to have them on their porches.
High pressure misting systems are 100% safe in 99.9% of circumstances.
